RMIA Certifications
The Process
Pathways to obtain CPRA or CPRM certification
The Educational Pathway will take you through our specific Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) course which covers all materials examined, based on the ISO Standards and the Risk Management Body of Knowledge (RMBoK). Alternatively, if you prefer to learn at your own pace, the recently released CPRA and CPRM Learning Bundles are available to purchase via our On-Demand Learning Hub.
If you prefer a more “hands-on” approach, the Experiential Pathway leads you through external studies and experience in risk-related industries and fields. The Educational Working Group (EWG) guides the applicant and will also make recommendations of any areas of study that may be required to consolidate education across any gaps in the examined ISO Standards and Risk Management Body of Knowledge (RMBoK).
Certification Process
Being a full financial member of the RMIA is a prerequisite to certification. You can apply for membership online by clicking here.
Completing the Certification Application Form and providing supporting documentation, (i.e. CV, declarations and verifiers, academic certificates/transcripts, completion of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) course, etc.) submit the application documentation via the certification links above. An application process fee applies, $99 for CPRA, $150 for CPRM and $450 for CCRO.
The application is then forwarded to the Professional Development Working Group (PDWG) for assessment who determine the applicant’s eligibility to sit the exam. This could include a meeting with a member of the PDC to review the applicant’s current circumstance and application, if more detail is required.
Once PDWG approval for CPRA/CPRM is given, the applicant will be invited to sit the exam. Applications are valid for 12 months following application approval.
The applicant will advise us when they’d like to be registered for the exam. Once registered, they will be sent access details to the exam portal. The applicant will then have 3 months to complete the exam from the registration date.
Once the exam is successfully completed, the applicant will be invoiced the pro-rated rate for their certification, to align their RMIA membership and certification renewal.
Exam, Fees and CPD Requirements
The certification exams for CPRA (Certified Practising Risk Associate) and CPRM (Certified Practising Risk Manager) are designed to assess your familiarity with the knowledge statements outlined in RMIA’s Risk Management Body of Knowledge (RMBoK).
Both exams are completed online and are administered by GSI Professional Training, ensuring accessibility and convenience for candidates.
The CPRA exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and has a time limit of 2 hours. To pass, candidates must achieve a score of at least 70% (70 out of 100).
The CPRM exam includes 150 multiple-choice questions and allows 3 hours for completion. A minimum score of 70% (105 out of 150) is required to pass.
Upon successful completion of the exam, the applicant’s certification will be issued.
To maintain certification, applicants must adhere to RMIA's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Requirements. Certified members are required to:
Achieve a minimum of 20 CPD points in any 12-month cycle from their membership anniversary date.
Accumulate at least 60 CPD points within the 36-month verification cycle.
There is also an annual renewal fee associated with maintaining certification. For CPRA, the fee is $150, while CPRM has an annual fee of $330. These fees are pro-rated to align with the applicant’s RMIA membership cycle.
By meeting these requirements, certified members demonstrate their ongoing commitment to professional development and excellence in the risk management field.
