About the Webinar
Risk and controls are regular bed fellows. Controls should be considered enablers – managing risks in order to drive sustainable outcomes. Defining the cost of controls is often easy – yet, articulating the value of controls can often be overlooked. This makes it difficult to prioritise; where will you spend your next dollar? If budgets tighten, what would you cut first?
Instead of enablers, controls may be seen as a hindrance. This is especially true when the cost is obvious, while the effect on outcomes remains elusive or simply never captured. Obstacles can arise when attempting to measure their effectiveness.
To understand the value of controls, we need to consider its partner, risk. How we measure risk is foundational to how we can measure and assess the value of controls. In this exploratory session, we will illuminate some of the methods you might consider to value controls to enable prioritisation.
We will explore:
· How controls apply to qualitative measurement approaches
· Using simple economic measures for control investment decisions
· The value of semi-qualitative control scoring models
· Quantitative approaches to risk and control measurement
· Challenges and trade-offs across the methods
· Considerations beyond simple ROI
There is no silver bullet, but our exploration will help you assess your current approach and identify ways to better articulate the value of controls – and ultimately optimise controls for better outcomes.
